Mama’s Whispers lyrics

Mama’s Whispers

Wake up Sunday morning, big bags under his eyes…
Crawls in bed with Mama, as the sun begins to rise.
He tells her all about his dreams, about the phantoms in the night.
Mama wipes a tear away, and holds her baby tight…
She looks in the mirror, another weary morn…
Her body sore and broken, her face resigned and worn.
Her baby needs some time today, her patience and her warmth…
But Mama’s just a step away from walking out the door…
Sometimes she sees it clearly: “I know my family needs me…”
But the desperate stream  of life keeps pressing on.
Everybody needs her, to make it all feel better…
But they never hear her whisper through the night…into the dawn.
She steps into the hallway, his blanket’s on the stairs,
and over at the table, standing on his chair
Her little boy is singing from his heart without a care.
She wonders if he’ll ever know how much she really cares…
Sometimes she sees it clearly: “I know my family needs me…”
But the desperate stream  of life keeps pressing on.
Everybody needs her, to make it all feel better…
But they never hear her whisper through the night…into the dawn.
It’s not the life she had in mind, when she walked down the aisle.
As years pass by and time decides, the journey takes a while.
The memories of dreams unseen, haunt her every mile!
She never thought her biggest mark would be that baby’s smile…

Sometimes she sees it clearly: “I know my family needs me…”
But the desperate stream  of life keeps pressing on.
Everybody needs her, to make it all feel better…
But they never hear her whisper through the night…into the dawn.
